Addis Ababa, 11 October 2024 - As we commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme "Girls' Vision for the Future," the Africa Platform on Children Affected by Armed Conflicts, stands united in our commitment to elevating the voices of girls who endure the devastating impacts of armed conflict across the continent.
In regions ravaged by violence and instability, girls often find themselves at the intersection of multiple crises, facing heightened risks of displacement, exploitation, and violence. The ongoing conflicts disrupt their education and development and undermine their fundamental rights, aspirations, and potential. Today, we call on all stakeholders to acknowledge their plight and reaffirm our shared responsibility to ensure that their rights are protected and their voices are heard.
The theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future” encourages us to listen to the dreams, aspirations, and unique insights of girls affected by conflict. Their vision is not merely one of survival; it is a powerful narrative of resilience, leadership, and change. We must prioritise their perspectives as we work towards solutions that address the multifaceted challenges they encounter.
