Organisational Spirituality and Work Engagement: The Mediating Role of Thriving at Work
Organisational Spirituality and Work Engagement: The Mediating Role of Thriving at Work
Organisations face various challenges with employee engagement. To promote engagement, contextual factors such as organisational spirituality should be considered. Such factors can facilitate employee growth and development, leading to thriving at work and, ultimately, increased engagement. This study aimed to explore the influence of organisational spirituality on thriving at work and the dimensions of work engagement, namely dedication, vigour and absorption. A quantitative research approach employing a survey design was followed, and a final sample of 259 respondents working at SMMEs in a developing context was analysed. The data was analysed using variance-based structural equation modelling. The direct influence of organisational spirituality on work engagement was the strongest on vigour, followed by absorption and dedication. Thriving at work influenced dedication, vigour and absorption. Thriving at work partially mediated the relationship between organisational spirituality and the three main dependent variables. These findings highlight the significance of organisational spirituality as a contextual factor for promoting thriving and engagement.
