Abstract:

Students in Creative Writing classes involving poetry - and especially those whose first language is not the medium of the class - should be encouraged to engage in translation work. Recent experiments in the writing of South African poetry where more than one language is employed, or where the wealth of the original is apparent in translation, are models which could be profitably examined in this context.
