Demystifying Ibn Khaldun's version of al-Kahena
Demystifying Ibn Khaldun's version of al-Kahena
Intriguing is Ibn Khaldun's treatment of Berber 'Queen' al-Kahena in his Tarikh. A lot of information is absent and the wording often equivocal in the four pages devoted to Al-Kahena's period. Compared to what other Arab or Muslim chroniclers said about her (non-Arab or non-Muslim historians are excluded as they might be accused of bias), what is unsaid about al-Kahena (and the whole period involving Kosseila before her and Muslim warlords' cruel treatment of the Berbers) in Ibn Khaldun's Tarikh seems to point to a personal attitude or a deliberate act that hides reasons this paper tries to demystify.
