The Paradigm Shift from Traditional Public Administration to Sustainable Public Administration
The Paradigm Shift from Traditional Public Administration to Sustainable Public Administration
This paper examines the paradigm shift from traditional Public Administration to sustainable Public Administration. It is vital to ensure that Public Administration is sustainable to deal with unforeseeable crises such as the 2008 global economic meltdown. For data collection, the study relied considerably on secondary sources. The study used the conceptual approach to explore the development and evolution of Public Administration to sustainable Public Administration. The results show that the grand trends of Public Administration development, as well as the relevance of public management development to the field of academic development, play a significant role in the sustainable development of Public Administration. The paper established the context of new Public Administration and its global implications. The expansion of the alignment between Public Administration and governance was revealed and supported by the models of governance, which are governance as government, governance as good governance, and governance as good enough governance. The results further show that the epistemology approach towards the theoretical foundation of Public Administration is essential since Africa adopted the Western European theories when practising Public Administration. The results include sustainable mechanisms for Public Administration development. The study delves into the Public Administration trends and paradigms in depth. The paper also discusses the challenges of Public Administration, as well as the mechanisms for achieving sustainable Public Administration, the rationale for sustainable Public Administration, and how to measure it.
