Abstract: 

....What is post-slavery? Post-slavery can (and usually does) refer to the process of renegotiation of social positions of freedom and constraint in the aftermath of the legal abolition of slavery. This process is, however, generally referred to as emancipation, as explained in the introduction to this special issue. In this article I search for a more nuanced meaning of post-slavery, which I believe is more than a synonym for emancipation.....
