Clean money, suspect source : Turning organised crime against itself
Clean money, suspect source : Turning organised crime against itself
Money-laundering and its links to organised crime and the response of the state are explored in this monograph. The combating of money-laundering is seen as a key component in the strategy against organised crime. Questions that are addressed in this monograph include the relevance of money-laundering to organised criminal groups;the need to combat money-laundering in the fight against organised crime;and the necessary components of an effective strategy to combat money-laundering. With the main focus on South Africa, some comparisons are also made with the legislation and practices of other countries. International instruments against money-laundering are briefly considered. Several institutions will be responsible for these investigations, necessitating the careful co-ordination of activities and communication between role players to avoid conflicts.
