Abstract:

The African Union (AU) plays an important role in ensuring that education is prioritised and access to quality education on the continent is realisable by member states. This paper looks at the activities of the AU, and the various instruments that have been introduced to ensure that the right to education is promoted, provided, and realised as contained in various treaties. Methodologically, this paper utilized a review approach with literature mainly sourced from the Google scholar search engine and AU website. The sourced lietrarture focus on education and addressing issues relating to AU initiatives and support for the right to access to quality education in Africa. The paper found that many AU member states lack ample access to quality education and, as such, require support and direction in using various treaty instruments that have been put in place to foster access to quality education. Against this backdrop, this paper accentuates the significance of these interventions and how they are imperative for promoting quality education and making learners on the continent literate, well-educated, and able to participate in broad socio-economic development and growth.
