Communiqué from the 1290th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council, held on 22 July 2025, on Consideration of the Conclusions of the Joint Consultative Meeting between the PSC of the AU and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), held in Midrand, South Africa, from 17 to 18 July 2025

Adopted by the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) at its 1290th meeting held on 22 July 2025 on Consideration of the Conclusions of the Joint Consultative Meeting between the PSC of the AU and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), held in Midrand, South Africa, from 17 to 18 July 2025:
The Peace and Security Council,
Recalling the AU Constitutive Act and other legal instruments establishing the PAP and PSC, particularly the Protocol relating to the Establishment of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union and the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community (AEC) Relating to the Establishment of PAP, relating to the mandates and cooperation between the two AU Organs;
Also Recalling the previous decisions and pronouncements on its working relations with the PAP, particularly, Press Statement [PSC/PR/BR(CXLVIII)] adopted at the 148th PSC meeting of 22 August 2008; the Press Statement [PSC/PR/BR.(CCCXLIV)] adopted at the 344th Meeting held on 27 November 2012; and PSC Communiqué [PSC/PR/COMM.1160 (2023)] adopted at its 1160th PSC meeting, held on 30 June 2023;
Noting the Opening statement by H.E. Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the AU and Chairperson of the PSC of the AU for July 2025; and the presentation by H.E. Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security delivered on 17 July 2025 during the Joint Consultative Meeting between the PSC and the PAP;
Determined to continuously strengthen working ties with the PAP in the promotion of good governance, peace, security, stability and development in Africa; and
