The 24th Anniversary of Zimbabwe's Independence
The 24th Anniversary of Zimbabwe's Independence
During the 24th Anniversary Zimbabwe's independence in April, President Robert Mugabe highlighted the fact that 4,500 white farmers used to own a third of the country's land, including 70 per cent of prime farmlands before the Government of Zimbabwe launched its land reform programme in February 2000 when the Government seized white-owned farms and distributed them to Blacks. Today fewer than 400 white farmers remain in the country and possess less than 30 per cent of the country's prime farmlands.
