Abstract:

Nigeria was a peaceful nation that attracted both local and international investors in different areas of the economy. This peaceful experience by the Nigerian people changed in 2009 when Boko Haram, a terrorist group, emerged. The insurgent group started launching attacks in a manner that the Nigerian Armed Forces have remained overwhelmed. The group's primary motive of attacks is to ensure that the Nigerian state forgoes western education and western civilisation for Islamic educational system and full implementations of Islamic laws across the states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. To push this ideology fast, the terrorist group has been continuously attacking schools and kidnapping students, teachers, and lecturers. They have effectively burnt down schools, destroying institutions of states and those of the international community, especially the United Nations building in Abuja. They have succeeded in burning down churches and killing Christians and anything that projects and promotes western ideology. This poses a danger to the Nigerian state, as many schools are totally closed indefinitely for over one year in the Northwest. This paper explored documents analysis as the methodology, considered frustration theory as the theoretical framework and concluded that education is important and the basis for both human and societal development-cum-progress. It captured some of the reactions of students' kidnappings by Boko Haram globally, and the Chibok Girls incident remains the focal point of analysis. The paper accounted for the right to education based on national and universal human rights laws. The paper focused on the scholarship of international and intercultural education as the panacea to Boko Haram terrorism.
