Abstract:

This paper catalogues and summarizes proposals made by African countries in the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Doha Round of negotiations within the following areas: agriculture, non-agricultural market access (NAMA), services, trade facilitation, special and differential treatment, trade related intellectual property rights (TRIPs), commodities and rules: regional trade agreements (RTAs). these proposals identify the needs and interests of African countries, which provide important benchmarks to assess the development dimension in these negotiations. The proposals have been made as the African Group, as individual or joint proposals with other African countries, jointly with developing countries from other regions, or in some cases, with developed countries. This is reflected in the table blow. The summaries that follow under each negotiating area are prepared by first stating the title, the sponsors and the date of the proposal and then moving on to delineate some of the essential aspects of the proposal.
