Abstract:

Federalism and federal arrangement in Nigeria's journey to a sustainable political system suggests that the government should start to embrace creativity and innovations in its governance system. This paper argued that there is a challenge inherent in the existing federal system in Nigeria. Hence, the paper used the integration theory to dissect how political unification of the constitute units can progress into strong intergovernmental relations. The paper adopted a descriptive approach with a reliance on secondary sources of information and content analysis of collected data. The paper found that lack of cooperation and creativity on among elected officials has been the bane of the nation's ability to engender a sustainable political system. The paper recommended a surgical reboot of the operating system and injection of tact and skill in crafting a constitution capable of transforming the society and making the levels of government in Nigeria capable of sustaining themselves.
