Abstract:

This paper is an exegesis of cultural reproduction in Zimbabwe. Chiredzi South district schools were used as a case study in exploring technology-related challenges that are faced by marginalised rural communities in education as the country implements the competence-based curriculum and introduces information communication technology in all schools. The paper stands guided by the Cultural Reproduction Theory as it unravels various challenges and their impact on society's social, economic, and political strata. Qualitative and quantitative methods were combined in a bid to gather data and infer authentic meaning from it. The research concludes that the status quo in the provision of information and communication technology in Chiredzi District schools is skewed and favours the perpetuation of cultural reproduction, which leaves the rural folks to lag in all facets of life. The askew provision of teaching and learning resources creates and emboldens the master-servant scenario between urban dwellers and their rural counterparts.
