Abstract:

There has been an increase in interest in the use of green finance as a strategy for urban climate finance and climate adaptation. However, limited discussions have focused on the use of green finance, particularly in addressing climate change-induced urban displacements. This study addresses this research gap by examining green finance as a climate adaptation instrument for responding to climate-induced urban displacements in Zimbabwe. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using literature reviews and document analysis as data collection methods. The paper explores Zimbabwe's response strategies, policies, and institutional frameworks through a case study approach. The research finds that green finance can be a viable strategy for achieving climate justice for people in urban areas displaced due to climate change. However, the analysis also highlights some challenges and opportunities associated with using green finance as a climate adaptation strategy for dealing with urban displacements. The paper recommends strengthening green finance mobilisation at the local government level to reduce dependency on multilateral funds.
