Gendered Art Entrepreneurship in South Africa: Emerging Artistic Trends Creating Empowerment Opportunities in Limpopo Province
This study focuses on women involved in the art industry for economic reasons, mainly to realise sustainable livelihoods. The research aims to identify new opportunities presented by female art entrepreneurship in Limpopo province. Exploring how women artists are navigating the opportunities presented to them by taking advantage of available platforms. The study draws on opportunity-based entrepreneurship theory for an investigation of the development of art entrepreneurship based on random sampling and qualitative interviews conducted during field visits to major locations in Limpopo province in order to clarify how opportunities provided by art entrepreneurship allow specific women active in the creative industry to participate meaningfully in the artistic production of their community and contribute to its economy. This development led to considerable improvements in the livelihoods of many women's lives. The study recommends that female art entrepreneurship ought to be formally supported as a strategy for job creation, whereby the encouragement of artistic economic empowerment results in improving women's sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
