The Afro Arab Cultural Institute came to being as the outcome of the efforts started by Arab and African Leaders in their summit, in Cairo, in 1977. The political will of those Leaders, thus expressed, were the culmination of a long history of rapprochement and common interests in all walks of life. It is hoped the Afro Arab Cultural Institute which was inaugurated in April 2002, will fulfill, as was the design of its founders, the aspirations of all African and Arab Intellectuals in the fields of culture and thought. Such was the aim of the African and Arab Leaders, and with such constant purpose, did the Commission of the African Union, the Secretariat of the Arab League and the Arab League Education Culture and Science Organization (ALECSO) follow meticulously all the steps leading to the creation of that Institute.
