Minor and trace elements in breast milk
Minor and trace elements in breast milk
This book is the third and final volume in a series of reports on a multinational study on breast-feeding. It contains the results of analyses for 24 minor and trace elements in milk samples collected from women in Guatemala, Hungary, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sweden, and Zaire. The reliability of the results was ensured by the use of (a) standardized procedures for the collection of samples (b) a single reference analytical laboratory for each element, and (c) appropriate analytical reference materials. The data obtained will provide a useful basis, not only for comparison of the composition of breast milk from women of different nutritional status and from different areas, but also for the formulation of recommendations regarding levels of trace elements in the diet of infants.
