Sustainable Development in Africa: A Multifaceted Challenge
Sustainable development – meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs – is not only an ideal toward which we strive, but it is also a multifaceted challenge. For sustainable development to thrive, key issues militating against it must be addressed appropriately. Africans are confronting serious challenges as they begin life in the twenty-first century. As the various authors of the papers in this volume have demonstrated, there are a variety of issues and factors that are critical to sustainable development in Africa.
