Abstract: 

The oral tradition of the Al Na'îm of Qatar is built on memorizing events that are imported through time by intervening factors. This study provides a longitudinal look at how history is passed on, recorded, or changed. Above all, this study is concerned with how the group views its own history in a context of changing social and economic status; The author collected date during two decades to see how the historical facts were transmitted. She was able to determine what was lost or changed through memory and through voluntary deleting of events. This methodological emphases is instructive for enhancing the validity of future collection.
