Abstract: 

The study examined the use of Land reform projects to promote peace in post-conflict local governments of Northern Uganda. Despite the existing land reform projects aimed at implementation of land disputes resolution mechanisms in Uganda, land conflicts have continued to exist in Northern Uganda. There is scanty information on the use of land reform projects to promote peace in post-conflict local governments of Northern Uganda. Therefore this study discussed in detail the use of land reform projects to promote peace in post-conflict local governments of Northern Uganda. The study was underpinned by the social conflict theory. The main objective of the study was to establish mechanisms for resolving post-conflict land disputes in local governments of Northern Uganda. The study adopted a case study research design based on a sample of 69 respondents using an interview guide and focus group discussion checklist. Data was analysed using discursive thematic methods. The findings of the study revealed that different land reform projects have been used to resolve conflict in Northern Uganda. The study concluded that the different land reform projects have promoted the use different mechanisms to resolve land conflicts in the local governments of Northern Uganda. The study recommended that several stakeholders need to be involved when adopting different land reform projects based on the different land dispute resolution mechanisms in Uganda.
