World population prospects: 2000 Revision

This volume presents the analytical report for World Population Prospects: The 2000 Revision, the official United Nations population estimates and projections. The analytical report is the third volume of a three-volume set; the earlier two published volumes provide the comprehensive tables(1) and the sex and age distribution(2) of the population of all countries of the world. The 2000 Revision is the seventeenth round of global demographic estimates and projections undertaken by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat. Between 1951 and 1998, following an early attempt in the 1940s, 16 rounds of population estimates were published : in 1951, 1954, 1957, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1995, 1998 and 2000.
