Opening Remarks at the China-Africa Energy Innovation Cooperation Accelerator Project Demo Day by H.E. Amb. Dr. Alhaji Sarjoh Bah, AU Permanent Representative to the People’s Republic of China, Beijing, 16 January 2026

Distinguished Deputy Director-General Yi Yuechun, Counselor Liuxiaoming, Vice Administrator Yao Jie, Dear Colleagues,Ladies and gentleman,
Good afternoon,
On behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and the AU Permanent Mission to China I would like to begin by extending my sincere greetings to all the guests present today and wish you all a happy and prosperous 2026! I wouldalso like to commend the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the National Energy Administration (NEA), and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI), for translating the outcomes of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit into practical, implementation-oriented cooperation, particularly the commitment to advance green industry and energy innovation.
In 2024, the outcome document of the FOCAC Summit explicitly stated that it would support the China-Africa Energy Innovation Cooperation Accelerator Project by promoting cooperation in green industries and assisting African countries in optimizing energy structure and upgrading industrial structure. Today, we gather here to jointly hold the demo day activity, which not only represents our active implementation of the strategic consensus reached by Chinese and African leaders during the last FOCAC Summit but also demonstrates our firm action in continuously promoting the pragmatic cooperation between China and Africa in the energy field.
China and Africa have always been reliable partners in their pursuit of development and revitalization. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa. In the blink of an eye, 70 years have passed, and while much has changed, including the cycles of the seasons, what remains unchanged is the consistent and unwavering friendship between China and Africa.
