Abstract:

Africa has been variously described as the theatre of violent conflicts across the globe. The nature of the conflict is multi-dimensional and differs from one country to another. This study evaluates the role of the African Union (AU) in conflict management within Africa. It relied on secondary materials to analyse the AU quest for peace on the continent, while focusing on the Central African Republic. The study found that the conflict in the CAR was relatively managed and negative peace was promoted through the intervention of the AU. It recommends increased national and international cooperation towards peace in Africa.
