Abstract:

There is an emerging body of literature on the current political violence in Cameroon. A closer look at the prevailing discourses around the current political violence in Cameroon shows that it is not uniformly understood by both scholars and practitioners. It also appears the arguments emanating from the literature produced by Cameroonians are biased towards a particular political cause. As such, this paper represents a balanced view from distant but Africa-based observers who wish to fill the knowledge gap created by the competing perspectives of pro- and anti-Cameroon government observers. This paper drew from secondary sources to reflect on the role of the African Union (AU) in the resolution of the ongoing political violence in Cameroon. The paper argues that the AU should pay more attention to the volatile political situation, which has obvious but far-reaching national, regional and international implications. Based on the findings of this paper, recommendations for consideration by policy makers were proffered.
