Abstract:

In December 2015, the Nigerian military and President Buhari claimed that the Islamist militant group Boko Haram had been defeated, meeting the deadline for victory set by Buhari. Those claims of defeat were soon exposed to be false. Even in the final days of 2015, the insurgents continued to launch deadly attacks in Nigeria and against neighbouring countries.
