Abstract:
The essay is an account of the operations and objectives of the Timbila Poetry Project. The Project fosters the development of new writing, especially in indigenous African languages. The Timbila writing model is a fusion of 'people's culture', economics, politics and history. It recognises that socio-economic conditions are a crucial element of a writer's expression.
