Cameline Agency: A New Agenda for Social Transformation in South African Women's Writing 2012?2014
What is new and progressive in writing in South Africa now, offering visions of the future? It is what I have termed cameline agency as I read a selection of South African women's writing published between 2012 and 2014. Cameline agency is a model for women?s survival in post-apartheid South Africa that offers more functional methods of empowerment than snail-sense feminism does. It is a profound call for the transformation of the social landscape of South Africa. This article argues that women?s writing exploits the image of the camel to posit visions of change that are at once daring and achievable.
