The CEO of Kronos on launching an unlimited vacation policy
The CEO of Kronos on launching an unlimited vacation policy
In a highly competitive hiring market, Kronos discovered that while its vacation offering for new employees was comparable to that of other firms, when recruiters sought to hire individuals in their thirties or older, they learned that those people had four to five weeks of vacation at their current jobs that they were unwilling to give up. The chief executive officer decided to adopt an open vacation policy, in which there are no limits to how many days an employee may take off - instead, they consult with their supervisors on how to arrange work in their absence. While managers at first thought this would make their jobs more difficult, the policy has improved work-life balance.
