On space and race in Abidjan, 1903-1934.- The idea of separated European and African housing was accepted in French colonial circles since the beginning of this century. However diverging practices and opinions obtained concerning the opportunity of isolating more or less absolutely the European neighbourhood. This paper attempts to determine which European fractions were confronted in this controversy and to reconstruct their motivating forces.
