Abstract: 

The article describes the way in which young Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo, the former king of Zulu, reduced to being a common chief, sought to achieve a political paramountcy that became his royal pretensions. Topics include Dinuzulu's involvement in the 1906 Zulu rebellion and events thereafter, his 1898 return to Zululand after 10-years exile on St. Helena, and his alliance with a wizard known as Mjantshi.
