Abstract: 

Discovering Technology is a series of books which provides a complete scheme for Key Stages 3 & 4 of Technology in the National Curriculum. It has been specifically designed to cover the programmes of study and teach the skills required for achievement in the attainment targets. BOOK 1 - 4 cover Key Stage 3. Book 1 covers technological skills - identifying needs and opportunities, generating designs, planning and making, evaluating, collecting and presenting information, generating ideas, organising, drawing and modelling. Book 2 covers technological concepts - the uses and properties of materials including food, textiles and resistant materials, energy, systems and control, structures and forces, aesthetics, business and economic considerations, health and diet, health and safety, environment, culture and community. Book 3 contains 40 photocopiable holistic tasks which can be used for short focused activities or longer extended work. Book 4 is a photocopiable Teacher's Guide. It contains advice on how to use Books 1-3 in different schemes of work, guidance on marking and assessment, and suggestions for practical skills work. Discovering Technology has been written the real needs of teachers and students in mind. The author has considerable experience of writing, reviewing, trialling and researching materials for Technology. He combines all of these with successful classroom practice.
