Dubai: An Arab city going Global
Dubai: An Arab city going Global
Dubai has a commercial city, a reginal rub, a global city and then an urban type all to itself. While the entire sequence of development has taken less than a century, each sequential stage nearly halves that of its predecessor on one hand and represents exponential population and economic growth on the other. It now ranks with the world's major economic and idea producing capitals such as Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Frankfurt and New York. The splendor in Dubai gives pause from Arab traditionalism, but also bespeaks a new moment for Arab cities. Questions are posed and then answered as to why Dubai has charted such success in contrast to many other Arab cities and states, who control the same or greater natural resources. Dubai's unprecedented success story for its security, stability, social openness, rapid achievement, ease of communication and meteoric growth is examined. Dubai is one of the most pro-market cities in the world. Part of its success, thus, is understanding and anticipating the monetarist principles underprinning the global market. The author poses the question, es this beginning of an Arav florescence so that Dubai pulls other areas within the region forward?
