Abstract:

The objective of this paper is to explore the unequal dimension of education weakly discussed in a comparative perspective. Since African countries are not a homogenous group, and in order to study the different development paths, we divided our sample into three groups: the group of English, French and Arabic speaking countries. We first start by building our own indicators to measure inequalities in education. To account for the durability of the reduction of inequalities, we transpose the Kuznets curve in the field of education and verify its validity. Data on inequalities in education are calculated by us based on data from Barro and Lee (2014) which provides schooling data by country. The main conclusion to be made is to emphasise this dimension of education in the development of educational policies.
