Abstract:

The recent wave of military invasion in politics in West Africa in the 21st century in the midst of the much talked about democracy and democratisation and the attendant relapse on the road to democratic rebirth is germane to this study. The paper underscores the trend of military coup in Ivory Coast and Niger Republic bringing out the supposed role of the ECOWAS Protocol in its interventionist drive to nip the trend in bud. The piece is a theoretical insight into the case in point, and hence literatures from other scholars of international diplomacy and policy analysis have been used. The study sums up with conclusion and recommendations.
