Abstract:

Drug epidemic is a lethal discourse that poses a menace in many societies of South Africa, as the country attests to a surging pandemic of drug addiction. It cuts short the lives, dreams, and hopes of many people especially the youth in South Africa and also endangers the future of the country. In the midst of drug praxes, lies a trend of satiating drug cravings christened Bluetooth. This study has thrived on a qualitative methodological approach and explorative design to explore the Bluetooth drug craze in South Africa and the degree of destruction it causes in the country. Secondary data were collected from documentaries, television talk shows, newspaper articles and critical essays. The findings of the study reveal that the youth in South Africa, amongst other age groups, appear to be the fragile cohort that succumbs to the nemesis of the state, drug addiction, and have massively fallen vulnerable to ?Bluetoothing'. Furthermore, this article recommended that schools, parents and government should unite to host and promote awareness campaigns in various communities to conscientise the youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
