Abstract:

With emphasis on local economic development initiatives, many smaller communities have been looking to tourism as a means of stimulating economic growth. This case study evaluates the costs associated with the booming tourist economy in Branson, Missouri. As this case demonstrates, a booming tourist economy challenges communities and their leaders to resolve may equity-based issues such as housing, tranportation, infrastructure and community service provisions.
