Abstract: 

An essay is presented on the processes that forced labor becane forced in central Mozambique from 1942 to 1961. The tools of colonial power used by Portuguese are examined as well as how authorities forced Africans to work, the importance of coerced movement in forced labor, and Portuguese colonialism. Also discussed are the coercive practices, the existence of voluntary forced workers, free labor, and histiography of forced labor.
