Abstract:

At the 92nd Session of the International Labour Conference (2004) there will be a general discussion based on an integrated approach to migrant workers. In order to prepare the report to the Conference, the ILO undertook a survey of trends, policies, and institutions by sending a questionnaire to all member States. At the time of waiting, 93 member States had replied to the Survey. The main findings have been integrated in the Report to the Conference entitled "Towards a Fair Deal for Migrant Workers in the Global Economy". A succinct summary of the main results of the Survey is found in the Annex to Report. In the present document the International Migration Programme provides a summary, by country, of the 93 responses to the Survey received as of April 2004. This is in response to a suggestion of several of the Member States, which responded to the Survey, to provide comparative information of the experiences in other countries in areas such as migration policy, national law and practice, migratory flows and employment of nationals abroad as it would be useful for them in policy making and administration.
