Informatics and telematics in health : Present and potential
Informatics and telematics in health : Present and potential
The use of informatics in health has expanded enormously over the past few years, the greatest impact being seen in the medical field. However, experience with the use of the technology in some areas of the health sector, such as primary health care and public health, is still quite limited. Considerable interest in the potential of informatics has been expressed by staff of national health authorities, and there is an increasing awareness of the ability of informatics to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health services and support activities. It is hoped that this book will help health service staff to appreciate the ways in which informatics technology has evolved and its potential for the future. With such an understanding, they will be better equipped to select and introduce the systems most appropriate to the needs of the various parts of the health care system.
