International medical guide for ships
International medical guide for ships
This guide is intended for use by people, with little or no formal medical training, who are responsible for health care on board ships of all kinds. It is written in simple language, and adopts a straightforward approach to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases and injuries. Advice is given on first aid and specific problems that may arise at sea, such as diseases of fishermen and care of castaways and persons rescued from drowning; two chapters are devoted to women's medical problems and childbirth. Consideration is also given to prevention of disease on board ship, and a recommended list of medicines for the ship's medicine chest is also included. As well as serving as a reference book, this guide is suitable for use as a textbook for those study for a certificate in medical training, and as an aid in training crew members in first aid.
