Kwaduenya: Three Hundred Years of Land Tenure in Asante
The article focuses on the history of land tenure in Kumase, the capital of the West African kingdom Asante. It looks at the policy and planning literature on land tenure issues and whether they focus on building and facilitating the emergence of land markets, integrating customary and formal land tenures and promoting property rights and the rule of law. It attempts to illustrate how the historical evidence should be brought to bear to understand present realities and future of African cities.
