Abstract:

In the developed countries, there is a definite school of thought that research works are the backbone of any organization. Particularly in higher level educational institutions, functioning of the research wings with development motive is automatic. This trend is now slowly but steadily seen in the developing countries too. But the daunting point is the availability of effective resources and funding for carrying out the research. Especially in African countries, there is vast scope for large scale research works to be undertaken because of the presence of abundant natural resources. Hitherto, the thinking is that doing research is the sole property of Government Institutions or Government sponsored Organizations. Nowadays, private entrepreneurship are doing better research to give a full dimension to their products- that could be the graduating students, industrial/manufacturing units and others. Fortunately with less bureaucratic bottlenecks and flexible protocol, the private organizations are gained day by day better proposition of works as compared with their counterparts in the government sector. In this pursuit, especially the educational institutions offering higher education have a legitimate eye and goal to introduce the research components in all walks of academic works associated with them. This paper brings out the various opportunities and set goals for the development of research wings in private educational institutions in Ethiopia.
