Abstract:

The business world is in the midst of a radical transformation. To accept the future it appears we must let go of much of the past. We must see much that is familiar from a new perspective and we must see the new as a sign of tomorrow. As it becomes increasingly clear that tomorrow's business organizations will bear little resemblance to those of the past, a revolution in thought is required. The successful enterprises of the 21st century cannot be understood piecemeal - new thoughts, perceptions, styles, and ways of doing things are required. As old certainties ebb away to be replaced by ambiguity and unfamiliarity, interest in the conditions for success in the nineties and beyond intensifies. Executives are becoming increasing concerned to understand what it will take to ensure that their companies have the foresight and ability to continuously transform themselves to better 'fit' the requirements of a rapidly changing world. They are seeking new models of how their businesses will look, feel and function in the future, and how their roles as functional and general management are being changed. There are few who remain unconcerned wit understanding what has to be done today to reshape their businesses to be amongst those who will succeed in the nineties and beyond.
