Abstract:

The article examines the dominance of hub firms - digital superpowers that are capturing a growing and disproportionate share of the global economy's value. This dominance has the potential to deepen income inequality and destabilize society. While companies that are dependent on hubs can defend their positions, it will be up to the hub firms to make more effort to sustain stakeholders and share economic value. Discussion includes the digital domino effect, increasing returns to scale, and shaping competition via investments that generate multiple hubs in every sector. By promoting the sustainability of businesses in their networks, hubs prevent other forces, such as government regulations, from stepping in.
