Mental Disorders: Glossary and Guide to their Classification in Accordance with the Ninth Revision of the International Classification of Diseases

This volume is a successor to the Glossary of Mental Disorders and Guide to their Classification that was issued for use in conjunction with Chapter V (Mental Disorders) of the Eight Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-8), and like it, is published for the guidance and convenience both of clinical diagnosticians and of others who may be concerned with the coding of psychiatric information. The Ninth Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) did not bring about fundamental changes in the classification categories in Chapter V, and those already familiar with the Eighth Revision will find the Ninth reasonably similar in outline, although containing a variety of improvements. A major new feature, however, is the inclusion of the glossary of mental disorders as an integral part of Chapter V of ICD-9, in recognition of the relative lack of independent information upon which psychiatric diagnoses are based and the consequent differences in the usage of psychiatric terms in different countries.
