Abstract:

The erstwhile political covenant between African countries and their western colonizers is far from diminishing. The political ties of colonial masters and colonies have a residual effect repo-effect on the responses of African leaders to emerging crises across the continent and the globe. The divisions of the African continent among, Commonwealth, Anglophone, and Francophones among others, are some of the determinants of the African leaders' responses to the political, economic, or social ills around the globe. This is evident in the responses of most African countries to the Russia/Ukraine debacle. What has been apparent is that most states are still adhering to the foreign policy that was inherited from the colonial administration. It is on that note that this paper seeks to understand the paraphernalia of colonial legacy African leadership in the Russian-Ukraine debacle. The paper adopts qualitative method of research to understand the phenomena at hand. From that premise, the paper concludes that the colonial legacy has impacted the African leadership, drawing from its response to the Russian-Ukraine debacle.
