Power and Its Discontents: Anywaa's Reactions to the Expansion of the Ethiopian State, 1950-1991
The article explores the local identity and cultural aspects of resistance and response by the Anywaa people in the Gambella region of Ethiopia to the political development of the national state. Emphasis is given to topics such as the influence of revolutionaries from Sudan, the impact of militant socialism and centralized rule on traditional authority, and the resettlement of peasants.
