Abstract:

Africa begins 2017 facing potential genocides in unstable countries like South Sudan. Libya and Somalia remain weakened states which, like South Sudan, present dangers to their regions and challenge African and international institutions to find solutions. Specific to these troubles, as well as nations' and international efforts at nation-building, Africa Conflict Monitor spoke with Kate Almquist Knopf, Director of the Africa Centre for Strategic Studies, an academic institution within the US Department of Defence based at the National Defence University in Washington DC.
