Abstract:

The workshop was organised primarily by way of conference funding available for the overall conference on maritime security and took place under the chairmanship of Professor Henri Fouché (University of South Africa), a known proponent of policing techniques to fight maritime crime in African waters. Mr Benjamin Mokoena (Stellenbosch University) acted as the workshop secretary to note the most important decisions and insights from the workshop participants. Twenty one (21) workshop participants from countries afar as Denmark, Kenya, Somaliland, Sweden, Tanzania, South Africa, the United Kingdom, as well as NGOs, the UNODC, IMO and Private Security Contractors that specialise in maritime security services took part in the discussions.
